The Moffat valley is one of the popular "mountain gate" routes used by military aircraft entering the tactical low-flying areas of the Scottish Borders. The spectacular scenery on the twisting, turning route from Selkirk along the A708 road makes this one of the favourite places for fast-jet pilots to hone their skills or bid farewell to a way of life.
Drawing on his own experiences, Michael Rondot has created a stunning painting of a pair of Jaguars ultra-low down over Loch of the Lowes on a clear, sunny day. This could be the final flight for one of the pilots in the formation, his swan-song, revisiting favourite places from the sweet, halcyon days of youth in the Jaguar Force.
