Having been scrambled to intercept a formation of Allied bombers, Me262 jet fighters of JV44 head back at low level to their base in Bavaria.
JV44 was formed by the Luftwaffe early in 1945 in a last desperate attempt to stem the advance of the Allied forces. Led by General Adolf Galland the unit flew the revolutionary new jet fighter, the Me262. JV44 was dubbed the ‘Squadron of Experts’ because it consisted almost entirely of famous fighter aces from all fronts of the war. Although hopelessly outnumbered the squadron fought on defiantly until the last few days of conflict.
