At the height of the Cold War during the 1970s and through the 80s, low level, fast-jet training sorties were absolutely crucial to Britain’s air defences. This was an era of the true, thoroughbred supersonic jet fighter like arguably the greatest of all jet combat aircraft of that time; the McDonnell Douglas F.4 Phantom.
Scorching down the peaceful beauty of the Spey river valley, Scotland, four RAF Phantom FG-1s, flash over Craiglockhart Castle on an ultra low-level training sortie during the squadron’s period of transition from its formation at RAF Coningsby to its home station at RAF Leuchars.
Each print in Simon Atack's Limited Edition, Phantom Country, is signed by Treble 1 Sqn. Phantom pilot Flt. Lt. Pete Underwood.
